Enid is a city of approximately 47,000 residents, located in Garfield County in northern Oklahoma. The city of Enid sits at the eastern edge of the Great Plains. Enid was founded during the opening of the Cherokee Outlet by land run in 1893. Today, the history of this era is preserved at the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center, located in Enid. Historical artifacts cover the history of the land run and Oklahoma events from 1540 to present. Enid was once home to Champline Petroleum and the H. H. Champlin mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Leonardo's Discovery Warehouse in Enid is a hands-on arts and science museum that offers an outdoor science park that also one of the largest playgrounds of its kind in the world. Other attractions in Enid include the Midgley Museum, a monument to the Midgley family, one of Oklahoma's earliest landholders, and the Southern Heights Heritage Center and Museum. Enid also has over 30 city parks and 400 acres for outdoor recreation. These areas include hiking trails, lakes, playing fields and more to relax and play. You'll also find plenty of shopping venues, restaurants and hotels from which to choose in the city of Enid.

Enid Weather & Climate

Northern Oklahoma has a continental climate with weather conditions that can change quickly. Snowfall is frequent across northern Oklahoma, which averages 30 inches or more of snow. A more common threat to the state is ice. In addition to ice storms, northern Oklahoma is subject to severe storms, floods, and droughts. Large and damaging tornadoes are a threat in almost any part of Oklahoma, which averages 54 tornadoes per year. Most tornadoes occur between late March and mid-June. Winters are chilly, but cold snaps usually only last for very short periods of time. Summers, on the other hand, can be sweltering. Springs are warm, with frequent thunderstorms. Autumn is usually lovely, with blue skies and mild, sunny days.
