Norman
is the county seat for Cleveland County, located in central Oklahoma. It is approximately 20 miles south of downtown Oklahoma City and is the third largest city in the state. As of 2006, the estimated population was 102,827 residents. The City of Norman is well known for being the location of the University of Oklahoma, which also makes it a center of cultural, technology and scientific research. The University is home to the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, one of the largest of its kind, and the Fred Jones, Jr. Museum of Art, which houses the world renowned Weitzenhoffer Collection. The city of Norman has a picturesque Main Street and many shady, tree-lined housing areas that surround the OU campus. The west side of town has seen the most development in recent years, including townhomes, apartments, large estates and upscale retail and dining. The central and eastern sections of town are older and include the areas around the OU campus and downtown. Both of these areas have retained their historic appearance. In 2008, Money Magazine ranked Norman as the 6th best place to live in the United States. USPS. Norman is home to several special events throughout the year, including the May Fair Arts Festival, Jazz in June, the Summerbreeze Concert Series, Mardi Gras and Midsummer Night's Fair in Lion's Park. In addition, the Medieval Fair of Norman has been an annual event for over 30 years. This event relives the Middle Ages with arts and crafts, food, games, jousting tournaments, costume contests, and more.

Central Oklahoma has a sub-humid climate with frequent variations in weather seasonally and on a daily basis. Except during the consistently hot, humid summer months. Consistent winds, usually from the south or south-southeast during the summer, help temper the hotter weather. Consistent northerly winds during the winter intensify cold periods. Summers in central Oklahoma can be extremely hot. The area receives about 33 inches of rain annually and 9 inches of snow. Central Oklahoma has a severe weather season from March through August, and especially during April and May. Tornadoes have occurred in every month of the year. Oklahoma City has become one of the most tornado prone cities in the United States.
